What new films are opening in Dallas/Fort Worth movie theaters today?
Wide releases
Clayface
Personally, I shy away from seeing overtly excruciating movies on the big screen. On the positive side for horror fans, the sensational Mike Flanagan came up with a story and receives credit for co-writing the screenplay, and James Watkins (Eden Lake) directed.
Wicker
This sounds like maybe someone heard about the classic folk horror The Wicker Man and decided to make it someone’s husband? And a comedy? Olivia Colman stars as the human wife in the equation.
Wildwood
Good stuff. Dazzling stuff. A love letter to Portland, Oregon, starts it off — well, actually, it starts when someone commits suicide — a child is stolen by a murder of crows — yes, that’s a thing — and a thrilling rescue adventure ensues. I loved it, of course, as I wrote in my review for ScreenAnarchy. Note that it’s playing in 35mm in some theaters, including the Angelika Film Center.
Klara and the Sun
Jenna Ortega is an “Artificial Friend,” but no, this sun-worshipping companion for children does not turn into a killing machine. I think?
Limited releases
Possible Love
Highly-praised Korean-language drama is a story of two married couples. See it in a proper movie theater before it hits Netflix.
