Classics, revivals, and more hit the screens of our area. Below are the screenings by theater, for the next two weeks.
The Texas Theater
231 West Jefferson Blvd, Dallas TX 75208. For all showtimes, events, and tickets, visit https://thetexastheatre.com/calendar/
Carrie (1976) – Lots of mileage with Brian DePalma’s film including a new miniseries of the acclaimed horror novel upcoming.
Screens on Thursday October 1st
Dr Strangelove (1964) – Screening as a doube feature with the new film “Digger”, which is said to draw lots of inspiration from Kubrick’s dark comedy masterpiece.
Screens on Friday October 2nd
Tuesday Night Trash double feature:
Children of the Corn 3 (1995) – Need to explore these films beyond the classic first one that always fevered me as a child in the 80’s for its sinister weirdness.
Anthropophagus (1980) – Gore hound Joe D’Amato’s video nasty. Need to see this one as it’s been on my radar for years. And D’Amato did over 120 films since 1970!
Both screen on Tuesday October 6th
The Shining (1980) – Screens on Thursday October 8th
Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) – Guillermo Del Toro’s fantasy horror begins a twentieth anniversary run.
Begins screening on Friday October 9th
Trick ‘r ‘Treat (2007) – Long heralded as an underseen cult classic this time of year (and I agree), this presentation will feature a Q&A with filmmaker Michael Doughtry.
Screens on Saturday October 10th
Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) – Screening will include a Q&A with author Joe Lansdale
Event takes place on Sunday October 11th
Malatesta’s Carnival of Blood (1973) – Honestly never heard of this film, but I trust the Texas Theater to program a good time! Description states a family comes in contact with a mysterious carnival wherein their son disappears.
Screens on Monday October 12th
Tetsuo the Iron Man (1989) – A hallmark of the hard core Japanese cinema of the late 80’s, Shinya Tsukamoto’s film is body horror of the highest order.
Screens on Wednesday October 14th
Spacy
1300 S Polk St #160a, Dallas, TX 75224 (located inside Tyler Station). Information about the venue can be found here.
From the Other Side (2002) – Chantal Akerman’s documentary about illegal immigration from Mexico to the United States.
Screens on Thursday October 1st
O Fantasma (2000) – Joao Pedro Rodriguez is a critic’s darling and “O Fantasmo” (along with “To Die Like a Man” several years later) provided a rare insight into queer filmmaking from Portugal in the early aughts.
Screens on Saturday October 3rd
Contempt (1963) – My favorite Godard film, and certainly one of the best films of the 1960’s. Georges Delerue’s score….. the cinematograph…. Brigit Bardot….. the meta-meta ideas. Brilliant.
Screens on Sunday October 4th
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) – Though you couldn’t go wrong in watching the Abel Ferrara remake, Don Sigel’s 1956 groundbreaking horror film encompasses so many buried ideas and a genuinely sinister vibe.
Screens on Tuesday October 6th
Carnival of Souls (1962) – I need to see this film about a car crash victim drawn to a carnival on the outskirts of town.
Screens on Thursday October 8th
DFW Alamo Drafthouse Locations
Schedule for all the locations in our area can be located here so check the site for theater availability
Beetlejuice (1987) – Screens on Friday October 2nd
Blue Velvet (1986) – Pretty much more terrifying than most horror films out there this month.
Screens on Friday October 2nd
Casino Royale (2006) – One of the best Bond films? Discuss.
Screens on Saturday October 3rd
Der Fan (1982) – German shock film about an obsessive fan. Saw this years ago, but this is a 4K presentation based on a new restoration and release.
Screens on Tuesday October 6th
Spider Baby (1967) – Love this Jack Hill low-budget horror film about a very close-knit family that lives in a mansion and kills visitors. Black and white dread that’s a low-key inspiration for so many inbred-family-in-the-woods films to come.
Screens on Wednesday October 7th
Hellraiser (1987) – Screens on Friday October 9th
Showgirls (1997) – Perfect anti-horror programming I suppose. Paul Verhoeven’s now acclaimed (masterpiece??) returns to theaters.
Screens on Sunday October 11th
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) – Screens on Sunday October 11th
The Hole (1998) – Tsia Ming-Liang’s Taiwanese New Wave fantasy about a man stuck in a hole in the floor. I personally think there are better Ming-Liang films out there, but this one was probably his biggest international hit.
Screens on Wednesday October 14th
Dallas Angelika

Strangers on a Train (1951) – Part of the Angelika’s annual Hitchcocktober series of films.
Screens on Wednesday October 7th
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) – Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of the classic myth. Stars Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves… so 90’s and great.
Screens on Monday October 12th
Rear Window (1954) – Screens on Wednesday October 14th
