Oscar Watching Parties: Where to Go

The Big Gold Statue Watching Party

The big night is finally (almost) upon us, with the Academy Awards set to be presented tomorrow night, Sunday, February 27, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The show will be broadcast locally by ABC affiliate WFAA (channel 8). If you’re feeling sociable and haven’t finalized your plans, here’s a roundup of Oscar watching parties around town (spoiler alert: the options have narrowed).

  • The Big Gold Statue Watching Party. Presented by Red Carpet Crash and the Asian Film Festival of Dallas. Admission is free, on a first-come first-served basis; VIP tickets may still be available, which bring reserved seating and additional benefits (including a free beer). Red carpet entry, with papparazzi available; don’t be afraid to suit up! Prizes and more, plus yours truly will be in attendance. (I know that makes your heart go pitter-patter.) Doors open at 5:30 p.m. [Angelika Dallas]
  • Outstanding, Spectacular, Cinematic Awards Reception. Presented by Gordon and the Whale. Complimentary hair-styles and make-up will be offered by hosts from Paul Mitchell: The School Dallas, photo booth available. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. [The Texas Theatre]

“Sold out” events:

  • Oscar Night America. The only officially-sanctioned viewing event in Dallas will be held as a benefit for the USA Film Festival. As of February 9, ony a “few tickets” were left, so they’re probably all gone now. [Studio Movie Grille Dallas]
  • Oscar Watching Party. Presented by DFW.com. As of 2/26: “Auditorium seating is full, tickets no longer available.” [Museum of Modern Art, Fort Worth]
