Event- The Texas Theatre
When- September 22, 2022 at 7:30pm
The previous list of performers who’ve been awarded the Ernie Kovacs award from Dallas VideoFest is far reaching. From filmmakers like Terry Gilliam to scribes like Robert Smigel, it’s an event that always promises to expose audiences to unique and prominent voices in the entertainment field.
So it’s no surprise that this year’s event presents its award to one of its widest personalities ever- that of actor, comedian, author, and politician Al Franken.
“Dallas VideoFest awards the Ernie Kovacs Award to the comedian of “Saturday Night Live” fame and former Senator Al Franken at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd. – Oak Cliff/Dallas). Hosted by Dallas VideoFest’s artistic director: Bart Weiss and Josh Mills, the son of Ernie’s wife, Edie Adams.
Celebrate the offbeat comedy genius, Ernie Kovacs, with his hilarious live gags on early TV in the 1950s and his career highlights, which have inspired the likes of Pee-wee Herman, Kids in the Hall, Amy Sedaris, Mike Nesmith, and Monty Python.
The event will be immediately followed by the 2006 documentary, AL FRANKEN: GOD SPOKE.
Admission – $40+ includes event at 7:30 pm at Texas Theatre followed by the documentary”
