Limited Releases: Oddly enough, musical biopic The Runaways, starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, is opening at three theaters in the Metroplex, but not in Dallas proper (it’s featured in the latest e-newsletter from the Angelika Dallas, but no showtimes are listed. Strange). Looks like a trip to Plano (Cinemark at Legacy), Arlington (The Parks at Arlington 18), or Grapevine (Grapeville Mills 30) is in order if you want to check it out; the film received middling reviews when it premiered at Sundance.

Bong Joon-Ho’s murder mystery Mother is the latest from the director of The Host and Memories of Murder. Steve’s review will be posted shortly. The film opens at the Angelika Dallas.

44 Inch Chest is finally opening at the Magnolia; Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, John Hurt, and Tom Wilkinson star in this tough drama.

Wide Releases: Of the three big releases, Repo Men may be the most agreeable, if you’re in the mood for stylish, stupid fun that feels vaguely insulting much of the running time. Jude Law, Forest Whitaker and Liev Schreiber chew the scenery agreeably.

The trailers for romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter, starring Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston as an ex-couple, did not raise my interest in the slightest, and I’m the wrong demographic for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, based on the best-selling young adult novel.

Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF): All films have been announced and the schedule has been posted at the official site. We’re already plotting our coverage. Well, Steve is; I’m still recuperating from SXSW.

I will say that a quick perusal of the films was very encouraging, since I missed all of the ones that just played in Austin, and I heard good things about nearly all of them.  DIFF begins April 8 and runs through April 18.
