Classics, revivals, and more hit the screens of our area. Below are the screenings by theater, for the next two weeks.
The Texas Theater
231 West Jefferson Blvd, Dallas TX 75208. For all showtimes, events, and tickets, visit https://thetexastheatre.com/calendar/
The Host (2006) – Bong Joon-Ho’s creature feature continued his successful string of genre pictures as a water serpent begins to overtake South Korea.
Screens on Wednesday March 5th
Snowpiercer (2013) – Another brilliant exploration of class and revolt, this time on an apocalyptic survivor train. For the past two decades, Bong Joon Ho has just been working on another level.
Screens on Saturday March 8th
Duck Soup (1933) – The Marx Brothers classic is presented by Interabang Books.
Screens on Sunday March 9th
Mother (2009) – Jong Ho’s lacerating portrait of the limits of motherhood.
Screens on Wednesday March 12th
Dune (1984) – David Lynch’s adaptation of “Dune” is wiiilld, but it certainly doesn’t deserve the decades of snipe.
Screens on Friday March 14th
Mermaid Legend (1984) – I wasn’t as impressed as others have been about Ikeda’s revenge film about a woman tracking down the killers of her husband. It does have some interesting moment though.
Screens on Monday March 17th
Spacy
1300 S Polk St #160a, Dallas, TX 75224 (located inside Tyler Station). Information about the venue can be found here
The micro-cinema is heavy on Eric Rohmer films: A Tale of Springtime (1990) screens on Tuesday March 4th
A Tale of Summer (1996) screens on Thursday March 6th
A Tale of Autumn (1998) screen on Thursday March 13th
Rosetta (1999) – Either one loves the perched-over-the-shoulder cinema of the Dardennes brothers, or they don’t. I love most of them. “Rosetta”, one of their first international hits, plays on Monday March 3rd
Working Girls (1986) – Filmmaker Lizzie Borden’s ultra-low budget film about sex workers in New York City is a blazing time capsule of the city and the underground DIY film style.
Screens on Monday March 10th
Belmont (2018) – From the website description: “Multiple award-winning Uruguayan director, Frederico Veiroj, returns to the international festival circuit with his fourth feature, BELMONTE. Belmonte is a middle-aged painter who creates unsettling and often confusing works of art that seem to speak to a growing melancholy and increasingly blurred lines between reality and dark fantasy. When he discovers his ex-wife becomes pregnant with another man’s child and is met with growing resistance over the custody of their daughter, Celeste, Belmonte retreats further into a world of foreboding unknown.”
Screens on Tuesday March 11th

Sideways (2004) – Alexander Payne’s lauded film stars Paul Giamatti. Screens as Part of the “My Favorite Films” series on Wednesday March 5th
Treasure Planet (2002) – A Disney animated film that I have no recollection of. Then again, I don’t have kids. Based on the Robert Louis Stevenson novel.
Screens on Saturday March 8th
Please Baby Please (2022) – Amanda Kramer’s reverse 50’s drama/comedy is avant-garde, funny, pointed, queer, and bizarre. Should be a great time on the big screen.
Screens on Tuesday March 11th
The Women (1939) – George Cukor’s classic screens on Wednesday March 12th
Dallas Angelika
