VARIETY, THE CHILDREN’S CHARITY OF TEXAS ANNUAL CINEMA PASSPORT OFFERED FOR LIMITED TIME

DALLAS, TX.  Variety – The Children’s Charity of Texas has announced its annual fundraiser for 2012.  The “2012 Variety Annual Cinema Passport” will allow the owner and a guest free admission throughout 2012 and will be honored at our theatre partners throughout Texas.  There will be a limited amount sold at a cost of $500 per pass and they will be sold on a first-come, first serve basis.

“We think that movie goers will recognize the value of the 2012 Variety Cinema Passport, and at the same time feel good about helping some deserving kids in their community,” said Tony Adamson, chairman of the board of directors of Variety – The Children’s Charity of Texas.  “The Variety Cinema Passport is a win for movie watchers and the thousands of disabled, seriously ill and disadvantaged children Variety serves.”

The entertainment industry has long supported Variety and its efforts to support children in need throughout the country.  “We are delighted to join together with other theatre circuits in a project which will ultimately benefit many special-needs kids in the Texas area.”

In addition to Cinemark there are 11 other theatre partners, including several major multiplexes, regional theatres and art houses, which have joined the effort, including Harkins Theatres, Landmark Theatres, Rave Motion Pictures, Starplex Cinemas and Studio Movie Grill.

The 2012 Variety Cinema Passport is available online at www.varietytexas.org, at 214/346-0920 or via e-mail at info@varietytexas.org.  Visa, MasterCard or American Express are accepted.  The non-transferable pass is good anytime except holidays and after 6 p.m. show times on Friday and Saturday nights for non pass-restricted movies.  Please read the restrictions thoroughly before purchasing.

Variety – The Children’s Charity of Texas is a local chapter or “tent” of Variety International, a non-profit organization serving millions of children in 15 countries.  Variety International began when an infant baby was abandoned on Christmas Eve in 1928 at the Sheridan Square Theatre in Pittsburgh, PA. A group of 11 businessmen in show business had formed a social club, the Variety Club.  They named the baby Catherine Variety Sheridan and she was the inspiration for other Variety tents to form around the country to help children in their communities.

Variety of Texas is the 17th tent, formed in 1936 by the show business community in Dallas.  Variety of Texas provides financial support to several special needs children throughout Texas for mobility devices, camp scholarships, therapy and many other needs.

With the support of the entertainment industry and international sponsors such as Cola-Cola, Variety International is the largest children’s charity in the world.  In the U.S. it is best known for its movie studio-sponsored “Gold Hearts” campaign, in which $3 gold hearts are sold in participating movie theatres.  Variety’s 2012 Gold Heart partner is featuring a Star Wars themed heart currently on sale at Cinemark Theatres, Hometown Cinemas, Rave Cinemas, Starplex Cinemas and Movie Tavern.
